The methods that LTMCI adapted were chosen to be efficient in introducing Chinese visiting physicians and scholars to the principles and practices of Translational Medicine (TM). Initially, we found that we had to present courses covering various areas of contemporary Western health care to bring those individuals ‘up to speed’ before we could introduce courses on TM, per se. Over a period of years, programs were created. The TM model is integrated into our bi-weekly main lectures, monthly Clinical Workshops and Research Collaboration Workshops, both English and Mandarin are used in the lectures to avoid language barriers; each facet of our program has a different focus.
Recently, we have added new elements to our program, some in the Longwood area and some in China. In the Longwood area we now present a monthly program offering Chinese – US Dialogue on a particular scientific topic and a monthly Innovation Lab. In China, we are establishing centers in several cities. These centers offer programs to our alumni and other members of the Chinese health care system.
